FAQ

Everything you need to know

FAQ

Everything you need to know

  • How does Tasse Crowley Energy compare to other Massachusetts fuel suppliers?

Tasse Crowley is a full‑service, locally owned company that delivers fuel and also installs and services heating, cooling, and plumbing systems, so one call can solve multiple home comfort issues. Fuel customers receive priority service, discounted HVAC and plumbing rates, access to Bioheat and cleaner fuel options, and 24/7 emergency response, making the focus long‑term reliability rather than being the cheapest option.

  • What about other Massachusetts fuel companies I’ve heard of?

Many fuel companies focus only on deliveries and then refer you to third‑party contractors for heating, cooling, or plumbing work, which can add extra steps and cost. Tasse Crowley handles fuel, HVAC, and plumbing in‑house, so everything from a delivery to a furnace repair or burst pipe is coordinated by one team.

The Tasse Crowley Difference

  • Which areas do you serve?

We service dozens of towns in Central and Western Massachusetts as well as parts of Northern Connecticut. Typical service towns are Brookfield, Spencer, Southbridge, Dudley, Wilbraham, Palmer, and more. Click here for a comprehensive list.

  • What information is required for a new fuel delivery customer application?

Customer applications require your name, billing address, service location, phone number, service type (oil, propane, etc.), and tank size. First-time deliveries may require pre-authorization, and the company will contact you for details and scheduling. You can usually apply online or by contacting the office directly.

  • How quickly can I get a fuel delivery?

Most deliveries in our service area are completed within 24–72 hours under normal winter conditions. During peak demand periods—cold snaps, holidays, or severe weather events—delivery windows may extend slightly. As a fuel customer with Tasse Crowley Energy, you receive priority scheduling, which means your order moves to the front of the queue during high-demand periods. We also offer same-day and emergency delivery options for acute runouts. Check with our team when you place your order to confirm your expected delivery window.

  • What happens during peak winter or major storms?

Winter demand can strain all heating fuel suppliers across Massachusetts, and we're no exception. During sustained cold snaps, our delivery fleet operates extended hours—including weekends and evening runs—to keep our customers safe and warm. We prioritize accounts on automatic delivery (since they've planned ahead), then handle emergency runouts for will-call customers. If you're on will-call service, we strongly recommend ordering when your tank drops to 25% to avoid last-minute scrambles. Fuel customers also gain priority placement during these critical periods.

  • Do I need to be home when the fuel truck arrives?

No—as long as your fill pipes and tank access are safely visible from outside your home, you don't need to be present. If this is your first delivery with us, we may ask you to be available for a brief tank and system inspection to ensure everything meets safety standards. For propane customers, we do require an adult present during the initial fill and any reintroduction of gas after a service visit, as leak tests and safety checks are part of our process.

  • What if I run out of fuel?

If your tank goes empty, contact us immediately at 508-765-0841. We dispatch emergency deliveries as quickly as possible, though response times may vary during peak periods. For heating oil customers, we'll deliver fuel, but your heating system will need to be bled and restarted—a process our service team can handle on-site for a service call fee. For propane, we'll complete a full safety inspection before restoring service. Emergency deliveries may incur additional fees; automatic delivery prevents this scenario entirely.

Delivery Timing and Reliability

  • Which towns and neighborhoods do you deliver to?

We serve south-central Massachusetts and north-central Connecticut, including Southbridge, Dudley, Webster, Holland, Brimfield, Wales, Brookfield, East Brookfield, Spencer, Palmer, Charlton, Sturbridge, and surrounding communities. Our delivery schedule is structured by route—each town has designated days for efficiency. If you're unsure whether your address qualifies, call us or check our service map. We occasionally expand routes based on customer demand, so even out-of-area prospects are worth asking about.

  • Do you deliver to homes, rentals, and businesses?

Yes. We serve single-family homes, multi-family residential properties, commercial buildings, and light-industrial facilities. Renters can absolutely open accounts without long-term contracts—no landlord approval is required. We're happy to work with property managers and landlords if needed. Commercial accounts may have different billing or minimum-order structures, so call our team for a customized quote.

  • How do I become a Tasse Crowley Energy customer?

We make it simple. Call us to discuss your fuel needs and confirm we serve your address. We'll ask for basic information: property address, tank size and type (oil or propane), prior fuel provider (if switching), and your preferred service model (automatic or will-call). You'll complete a brief application and credit review. If you're a new home, we'll schedule a free tank inspection before the first delivery to confirm system safety and efficiency. Once approved, your first delivery can often happen within days.

  • What if I move or sell my home?

Notify us as soon as your property changes hands so we can close your account and handle any equipment or lease items correctly. If you're the new owner, we'll welcome you as a customer with a fresh tank inspection and account setup. If you're relocating within our service area, we can transfer your account without interruption. We make transitions smooth because we know moving is stressful enough.

Service Area and Account Setup

  • What kinds of fuel do you deliver?

We deliver #2 heating oil, Bioheat® fuel blends and propane. Each fuel type is suited to specific systems and climates. Bioheat is cleaner and reduces sludge buildup in your tank and lines—perfect for modern, efficient systems. Propane works well for homes without oil infrastructure or those needing portable heating. Kerosene is available for portable heaters and specialty applications. We'll help you choose the right fuel for your setup.

  • What is Bioheat and should I use it?

Bioheat is a blend of ultra-low-sulfur diesel and advanced biofuel (typically 2–5% biodiesel content). It burns cleaner, reduces tank sludge and corrosion, and lowers emissions compared to standard #2 heating oil. It costs the same as standard oil but delivers better system longevity and environmental benefits. Many modern furnaces run Bioheat flawlessly; older systems generally switch without issues. We can discuss whether Bioheat makes sense for your heating system.

  • Is there a minimum fuel delivery amount?

Yes. Most deliveries require a minimum of 100 gallons. If you order less than 100 gallons, a small-order fee applies (typically $25–$50). This minimum helps us manage route efficiency and keep per-gallon prices competitive for all customers. Many customers find that automatic delivery prevents the "small order" scenario entirely because we deliver before the tank gets critically low.

  • Will you deliver to my existing tank?

For heating oil: Yes, we'll deliver to most existing tanks as long as they're in safe, usable condition. We may require a tank inspection on first delivery to confirm they meet state standards.

For propane: We can only deliver to tanks you own or have exclusive use of. If another company owns or leases the tank, we cannot fill it. We're happy to discuss propane system options if your current setup creates barriers.

  • Do you inspect or protect my tank?

We inspect all tanks on initial delivery to confirm they're safe and compliant. Beyond that, we offer Oil Tank Assurance Program OTAP—an annual tank treatment and monitoring service that reduces corrosion, prevents sludge buildup, and extends tank life. It's a modest annual fee that protects a significant asset and reduces environmental risk. Many customers find it worthwhile peace of mind.

Fuel Types  and Policies

  • What safety checks happen during delivery?

At initial deliveries, technicians inspect your tank, venting, and fill connections to confirm they meet Massachusetts safety codes, and propane customers receive multi‑point safety checks and leak tests before service is restored. If an unsafe condition is found—such as a rusted tank, improper venting, or a code issue—delivery may be paused while options are discussed, because the company will not deliver to a system it believes is unsafe.

  • Are there regulations I should know about?

Massachusetts requires heating fuel suppliers to register with the state and follow strict safety, reporting, and consumer protection rules. Tasse Crowley operates in full compliance with these regulations and is transparent about contracts and practices so customers have clear protections and recourse.

  • Do you deliver Bioheat in all seasons?

Bioheat performs very well in Massachusetts conditions, and most modern systems can run it year‑round without issue. During periods of extreme, sustained cold and with some older equipment, carefully blended fuels may be used to reduce the risk of gelling, and Tasse Crowley tailors blends to balance system performance, reliability, and environmental benefits—something the team can review with you based on your system

  • What’s your environmental commitment?

The company uses Bioheat blends to help lower emissions and reduce tank sludge, and it properly handles waste oils and tank materials during service work. System designs emphasize efficiency—such as high‑efficiency boilers, smart controls, and regular maintenance—so while full carbon neutrality remains a future goal, cleaner fuels and responsible practices are part of everyday operations.

Safety, regulations, and environment

  • How do I access my account online?

You can log into the secure web portal with your account credentials—or create an account if you’re new—and manage most routine tasks yourself. From there, you can pay bills, place will‑call fuel orders, request HVAC or plumbing service, review delivery history and balances, update contact information, and view budget and pricing details 24/7.

  • How do I set up or change my delivery service?

To switch between will‑call and automatic delivery or adjust a budget plan or other account details, just contact the office, and changes will apply to your next scheduled or requested delivery. For urgent needs, dispatch will do its best to arrange same‑day or next‑day service when possible.

  • What if I have a question about a bill or charge?

Start by reviewing the itemized delivery record in your online account, which shows gallons delivered, per‑gallon price, fees, and taxes for each visit. If anything seems unclear or incorrect, call the office so a team member can explain the charges and correct any errors as part of the company’s commitment to transparent billing.

  • Do you offer financing?

Yes, financing is available through a partnership with Watercress Finance for HVAC, plumbing, and heating system upgrades. Flexible terms are designed to make major comfort improvements more manageable, and options can be discussed when planning your project.

Account Management and Online Tools

  • How is my price per gallon determined?

Fuel prices fluctuate based on wholesale market conditions, crude oil supply, refining costs, and regional demand. We don't quote fixed prices in advance because doing so would either lock us into losses or require us to build in large margins—neither benefits you. Instead, we offer competitive market-based pricing updated regularly. To get today's price and a real-time quote, call our office or visit your online account portal. We also offer budget billing and price-cap contracts so you can smooth seasonal costs and lock in ceilings if you prefer predictability.

  • What payment options do you accept?

We accept cash, check, major credit and debit cards, and ACH transfers for online payments. Most accounts operate on a net-30 basis (bill arrives after delivery), and we offer AutoPay for customers who want hands-off account management. Budget billing plans spread costs evenly across 12 months, reducing the shock of winter heating bills.

  • Do you offer budget plans, price caps, or pre-buy programs?

Yes. Budget Billing divides your estimated annual fuel cost into equal monthly payments, smoothing the peaks and valleys of winter heating. Price Cap Contracts lock in a maximum per-gallon ceiling—you pay the lower of market price or your cap. Pre-Buy Programs let you lock in a price during off-season (summer) to protect against winter spikes. Each option has different terms, so ask which fits your situation.

  • Are there delivery fees or extra charges?

Beyond the per-gallon fuel cost, you may encounter:

    • Small-order fee ($25–$50) if delivery is under 100 gallons
    • Same-day or emergency delivery fee if you order after cutoff or need immediate service
    • Service call fee if we need to bleed and restart your heating system after a runout
    • Tank inspection or treatment fees (one-time or annual)
    • Regulatory compliance fee ($6.75 per propane delivery) to cover state and federal hazmat compliance

The best way to avoid surprise fees is to order early (no small-order charge), keep tank levels monitored (no emergency fees), and maintain regular service (no runout restarts). Automatic delivery customers rarely face any of these because the system is built to prevent them.

Pricing, Payment, and Contract

  • What is automatic delivery and how does it work?

Automatic delivery uses weather tracking, your past heating usage, and seasonal patterns to predict when your tank will run low—then we schedule and deliver fuel before you're in danger of running out. You receive advance notice of the delivery window (usually a few days). No need to watch your gauge or call us manually. It's a set-it-and-forget-it service that ensures you never run out and eliminates the stress of will-call management. Fuel customers who choose automatic delivery also get priority scheduling for any HVAC, plumbing, or heating service calls.

  • Can I stay on will-call and order only when I need fuel?

Absolutely. Will-call service means you monitor your tank gauge and contact us when you're ready to order. There are no contracts or penalties. However, will-call customers carry the responsibility of staying ahead of depletion. We recommend ordering when your gauge hits 25% to ensure timely delivery and avoid emergency situations. Will-call customers are scheduled after automatic-delivery customers during peak demand, so cold snaps may extend your delivery window.

  • How do I order fuel as a will-call customer?

Call us during business hours, visit your online account portal to place an order, or email your request. Provide your address and approximate delivery date preference. Our dispatch team will confirm your window and send a delivery notice. Online ordering is fast and available 24/7—you'll get a confirmation and estimated delivery timeframe immediately.

  • What's included as a fuel customer beyond delivery?

Fuel customers receive priority HVAC scheduling, discounted rates on heating and plumbing services, priority emergency response if you lose heat, and special pricing on annual maintenance plans. We operate as a one-call shop: fuel delivery plus heating, cooling, and plumbing under one trusted relationship. This bundled approach saves you money and simplifies home comfort management.

Delivery Models and Customer Service

  • How do I switch from another fuel company?

Call us with your current provider's info and your tank details. We'll confirm we serve your area, discuss pricing and service options, and schedule your first delivery. Most customers can transition within a few days. Your old supplier will stop deliveries once you've switched; no complex process needed. We'll handle the setup and make it seamless.

  • Is there a contract required?

No. Will-call customers have no contract—order as you need. Automatic delivery customers can choose to sign a service agreement (typically one heating season) to lock in pricing and automatic scheduling, but it's optional. We don't trap customers in long-term commitments; we earn your loyalty through reliable service and fair pricing.

  • What makes Tasse Crowley Energy different from discount oil companies?

Discount fuel retailers compete purely on price—they deliver fuel and little else. If your furnace breaks, your AC fails, or a pipe bursts, you're calling three different contractors. We're an integrated home comfort company: fuel delivery plus HVAC, heating, cooling, and plumbing. Yes, our per-gallon price reflects the breadth of our service—but fuel customers get bundled discounts on heating system repairs, maintenance, and installations. You save money on the services you'll eventually need while keeping one trusted relationship.
